Dream New Dreams

As we begin 2018, it’s good for all of us to be reminded that our Heavenly Father has dreams and desires for us, His children. He is wanting to do great things in our lives this year, things that are far above and beyond our own dreams and desires. Our part is to look past where we have been and where we are at today to Him and, with a sincere heart, receive the dreams that He has for us. In other words, we can dream together with the One who holds our future! As we delight ourselves in the Lord this year, I believe He is going to put new dreams and desires into our hearts that are strategic for this season of our lives.

Delight yourself in the Lord, And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4 AMPC

We can see this in the life of Moses. In Acts 7:23, it says when Moses turned 40 years old, it came into his heart to visit his people. This desire that came into his heart was a God-given dream and a part of his divine destiny. As the story unfolds, things didn’t turn out the way that Moses had expected and he spent the next 40 years of his life out in the wilderness. I think that there are a lot of people today who probably feel the same way that Moses must have felt at that point in his life. He had big dreams of making an impact in his generation but it looked as though it was never going to come to pass. From a natural perspective, it looked like the dream he once had was dead and there wasn’t much hope that he would ever become the person he once thought that he would be. What’s amazing about this story is that 40 years after the time the dream first came into his heart, God visited Moses in a burning bush and spoke to him again concerning the dream he had when he was a young man. God RESTORED Moses’ dream and empowered him to go on and accomplish the things that were in his heart years earlier.

“It shall come about after this That I shall pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions.” – Joel 2:28 AMPC

It’s never too late to dream a new dream! If God did it for Moses, he can do it for you. No matter what you may have been through, by the power of God, you can be restored and dream again. In Joel 2:28, it says that in the last days God will pour our His Spirit on all flesh and, through the power of the Holy Spirit, old men will  “dream dreams.”  The word translated dream in that verse could also be translated “recover” or “restore”. This means that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, God can restore our dreams. Things that looked as though they were lost or impossible of fulfillment, the Lord is saying, I can recover it! Remember, the gifts and callings of God are without repentance. He is able to redeem the time and restore the years that have been lost.

“Now to Him who is able to carry out His purpose and do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams].” – Ephesians 3:20 AMPC

Let’s dream big dreams this year, dreams that are rooted in what God is able to do in and through our lives. In other words, let’s enlarge our vision and make room in our lives for the power of God. Nothing is too difficult for Him! No dream is too big! So, let’s approach our future with renewed faith and hope in the One who not only gives us big dreams but also brings them to pass!

Get ready… GREAT things are ahead!
